The Truth About Carpets and Asthma

Posted on 06/10/11, filed under Fresh News | No Comments

Scientific studies now agree that there isn’t actually an increase in the number of asthma and allergies among children and adults living in homes with carpeted floors.

Despite the general consensus that believe carpet is no good for asthmatics. It is believed that carpet stores the dust and particles which then irritates the breathing, but if the carpet is hoovered regularly then this is would never be a problem. And in fact the carpet actually helps keeps the dusts contained so it doesn’t fly around the air aggravating the asthmatic.

When choosing a carpet, it would probably be best to choose a short pile carpet to cover your room, there are many different styles and patterns that you can go for these days ranging from stripe carpet through to neutral coloured carpet.

Carpet colour trends – making them work for you

Warm Coloured Carpet
Warm colors can range from the very lightest of yellows to the very darkest of reds and browns. Our initial thoughts for warm colours are the orange, terracotta, reds and browns.

When choosing a warm color we think of oranges, reds and yellows.  When applying these types of color choices to a carpet, the warm colors translate into browns and rusts.

If you have a large room you can afford to go the darker route and these will make the room feel cosier especially if the theme is carried across onto the wall.

Cool Coloured Carpet
Cool colors also run from light to dark. The most common theme is blues, greens and greys. The darker the shade you choose will make your room seem more grounded and the lighter the colour will make the room seem larger.

Neutral Coloured Carpet
When we think of neutral colours, we naturally go to beiges, browns and creams. Cream is not the colour for you if you have a house full of kids or pets!

These make for great grounding colours and you can add bold colours using rugs or cushions to add in splashes of colour. Our sister company The Rug Showroom have a grand selection of rugs for you to pick from.

Bold Coloured Carpet
Bold color choices are made by those of us who like to make a statement. The most popular at the moment is bold stripe carpet – these are fantastic for hallways and stairs or for larger rooms in your home.

Success is pairing bold colors with the most suitable of partners when it comes to your total combination of carpet, paint, fabric and accessories.

Cormar Carpets on BBC News Over Concerns on Escalating Wool Prices

Posted on 15/09/11, filed under Fresh News | No Comments

Leading British carpet manufacturer, Cormar Carpets, made an appearance on BBC Breakfast as the news channel investigated the effects of rising British wool prices.

Looking into the problems it was causing in the industry, the programme spoke to David Cormack, marketing director of Cormar Carpets. He said: “Everyone within the woollen carpet industry is experiencing the problems associated with the rising costs of wool. As a result of the increases we have seen woollen yarn prices increase dramatically and at the moment there are no signs of prices coming down.”

The BBC report, which aired on Tuesday September 6, said that wool prices are now at their highest level in 25 years. The principal reasons for the escalating costs are the increase in global demand for wool and falling supply, due to a reduction in sheep numbers in both UK and the New Zealand. It also said this was having a knock on effect with many UK yarn spinners that rely on wool, seeing a slow down in sales and production.

As part of the report, a BBC crew filmed at Cormar Carpet’s Holme Mill tufting production unit in Lancashire and interviewed David Cormack. He told BBC reporter, Jenny Hill: “As a British manufacturer, we really want to support British Wool but because of the increase of cost to the business we’ve had to look at producing alternative products to offer more choice for our retailers and consumers.”

All Cormar’s wool and polypropylene carpets are produced on site at its two Lancashire mills and distributed in the UK and Eire via its own delivery fleet.
